★英語のレッスン★Phrasal verbs～LESSON 88 Add up～英語で数字
英語の勉強をしている皆様、お疲れ様です！
私のブログを見て頂いている皆様、ありがとうございます！
英語で数字を言う時、皆さんは直ぐに出てきますか？
私は3桁以上になると苦手です。言い方は色々ありますが
例えば、100は one hundred
101は one hundred and one
111は one hundred and eleven
私は急に 171、212、とか言われてもパッと出てきません。
ワンクッション置いてからなのでたどたどしくなってしまいます。
英語の数字にも慣れる為に私は自分の部屋にあるアレクサを英語バージョンにしました。
そして時間を聞いたり、天気を聞いたり、音楽をかけてもらったりと結構活躍しています。それと自分の英語が認識されるのも嬉しいですよ。
稀に、隣の部屋の日本語バージョンが答える時もあるのですが・・(-_-;)

Mother, father and Taro talk to Chibi on a cell phone.
Chibi’s voice “Nancy is a very kind lady unlike you ! I don’t think you are family anymore because you don’t care about me even though I’m gonna die. ”
Mother “Hey, Chibi, Please set that topic aside. I'm sick of talking about it. Could you tell me how many hostages there are? ”
Chibi “You got it.”
Chibi counts the hostages who are tied up in the bus.
Chibi “There are three men and two women, so added up, there are six hostages. ”
Mother “What ? Those figures don't add up !”
Taro “Chibi is stupid !”
Father “He can’t add.”
Taro “I got it ! He multiplied 3×2＝6 (three times two equals six). ”
Mother “Hey, Chibi, you don’t need to separate the men and women. How many hostages are there in total? ”
Chibi “Gotcha.”
Chibi begins to count the hostages.
Chibi’s voice “One, two, three; it adds up to 13.”
Mother “13 ?”
Taro “Oh, no !”
Father “Chibi is an idiot !”
Mother “Can you count ? ”
Chibi’s voice “Don’t put me down ! Yes, I can !”
Father "Now I get it. He's also including Nancy and himself. ”
Taro “But at first, he said 6 hostages and after that, 13 hostages, so that doesn’t add up.”
Father “You're right.”
Mother “We can’t count on Chibi.”
The police show up.
Police “Did you find out the number of hostages ?”
Father “I’m sorry, we couldn’t find that out. ”
Mother “He went to elementary school, but he got beaten up by a bully and dropped out of the school so he hasn’t studied mathematics and he can't count numbers. ”
Police “Got it.”
今日のPhrasal verbs（句動詞）は
Add up
①合計する・計算が合う
②（話・事実・証拠・行動が）意味をなす・納得がいく・なるほどと思える・了解できる・合点がいく
Add up these figures.
これらの数字を合計します
I think these figures don't add up.
これらの数字は合計が合わない。
His excuses don’t add up.
彼の言い訳は辻褄が合わない

我が家では広くもない家にアレクサが３台あります。出始めに買ったもの、バーゲンで買ったものです。（安いときは第３世代が2000円ぐらいで買えた記憶が・・）
バーゲンの時に買うのがお勧めです。
リビングに置いてあるのは料理をしている時に、『アレクサ、７分たったら教えて』とか、他にレシピ・天気・ニュース・音楽が多いです。（これは液晶版）
天気の場合は旅行先の天気とかも聞けて便利です。
自分の部屋は、ちょっと昼寝したいときにアレクサにアラームをならしてもらったり、
夜中に目が覚めて時間を知りたい時に聞いたり（これ凄く便利、以前は携帯を探して時間を見たりが口だけで済む）
時々、『ごめんなさい、ちょっとわかりませんでした』といわれます。
