★英語のレッスン★Phrasal verbs~LESSON 125 Call for~Shogunate とgovernment

Why did the cat come to Japan ?EP25をアップしました!

日米和親条約 → the Convention of Kanagawa

開国 → opened the country.

日米修好通商条約 → the Treaty of Amity and Commerce

Meiji Restoration

Appleman is the emcee on the TV program  ‘Why did the cat come to Japan?’

Shitata “Chibijiro didn’t come back but the big chicken, Chibi, who wasn't called for by anybody, showed up so Asuka and her family got angry, right ?”

Himuro “Yeah! Our TV program investigated in and we found out why Chibijiro threw away Asuka’s grandmother.”

Shitata “Why ?”

Himuro “ It was caused by a serious incident related to Japanese history.”

Shitata “I wanna know.”

Himuro “We’re gonna set out some Japanese history beforehand.”

Manjiro's timetable shows up on TV.

Shitata “Asuka’s grandmother and Chibijiro met in 1852, didn’t they ?”

Himuro “That's right ! They lived happily but Perry’s black ship arrived in Japan the following year.”

Shitata “I think nobody could speak English except Manjiro at that time. ”

Himuro “Yeah, so Tokugawa government called for Manjiro as an interpreter.

Shitata “Oh, I see, so Manjiro was summoned by Tokugawa government and went to Edo.”

Himuro “That’s right. Manjiro got to Edo and found out that Perry called for a shift in our  national isolation policy.”

Shitata “Prompt action was called for.”

Himuro “Yeah, so Manjiro called for Chibijiro by smartphone.”

Shitata “What are you talking about? There were no phones in the Edo era.”

Himuro “I know. It’s a joke.”

Shitata “What did Asuka’s grandmother say when she heard Chibijiro went to go Edo ?”

Himuro “She supported his decision and said that the occasion called for a celebration.”

Shitata “Oh, she was really a samurai cat’s wife.”
